Kyiv airstrike update: Death toll grows to five
This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in his latest video address to the nation, Ukrinform reports.
"The occupiers have no roots. No memory. And no soul. Russian troops attacked Kyiv, attacked Kyivites. Four apartment blocks were destroyed. The rubble is still being cleared. As of now, five people are known to have died in Kyiv," said the president.
He appealed to the Russian invaders, pointing out that the shelling struck a city that they themselves have always called the "mother of Russian cities", and which, in fact, made our peoples historic.
"And it was this city that you bombed today. Those were average people, average homes. You bombed and bombed them again. We don’t need such children. Thanks," said Zelensky.
According to the president, the occupiers still believe the capture of Ukraine’s capital is their key political objective. "They hope that control over Kyiv will give them control over Ukraine. This is absolutely absurd – from all perspectives," he said.
As reported earlier, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the launch of the invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops have been shelling and destroying key infrastructure, massively hitting residential areas of Ukrainian cities and towns, using artillery, multiple rocket launchers, and ballistic missiles.
Martial law was imposed in Ukraine and general mobilization was announced.
Ukraine has filed a lawsuit against the Russian Federation with the UN International Criminal Court in The Hague.
On the morning of March 15, Russian forces carried out an airstrike on the capital's residential neighborhoods and infrastructure. As a result of the missile attack, high-rise buildings in Podilskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts were damaged. In addition, a private household was hit in the Osokorki district, as well as the entrance to a metro station in the Shevchenkivskyi district.
