143 children killed, 216 injured in Ukraine since start of Russian invasion - Denisova
Verkhovna Rada Human Rights Commissioner Liudmyla Denisova said this in a statement published on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
"As of 08:00 on March 28, 2022, according to the single register of pre-trial investigations and other sources that need to be verified, 143 children have been killed and 216 children have been injured since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began," the statement said.
The ombudsman also added that it is not possible to establish the actual number of children killed and injured in the hostilities due to the fact that Russian occupation forces are engaged in active fighting in Ukrainian cities.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of an all-out invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops have been shelling and destroying infrastructure, residential areas of Ukrainian cities and villages using artillery, multiple rocket launchers and ballistic missiles.
Martial law was imposed in Ukraine and general mobilization was announced.
