Officials ask inhabitants of liberated settlements in Kyiv region not to hurry back home over mine threat
According to Ukrinform, Yenin said this in a comment on the situation in Kyiv region over the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports on Telegram.
According to the First Deputy Minister, "the enemy did everything to prevent the Ukrainian command's plans to take control of the entire Kyiv region, eliminate attempts at besieging Kyiv, and regain control of roads in the western direction."
"But the occupiers have overestimated their capabilities, and as a result - the withdrawal of enemy units and the liberation of settlements," said Yenin.
According to the official, "when they realized that their plan did not work out, they began to change tactics and focus on the destruction of civilian infrastructure, forcing the political leadership of our country if not to give up, then at least to make additional concessions."
"The occupying forces continue to open fire on Ukrainian settlements. They drop a lot of bombs, fire large-caliber artillery. The invaders see these two instruments as key elements. By violating the norms of the Geneva Convention, shelling civilian areas ans infrastructure, the enemy apparently turns a blind eye to what it leads to," said Yenin.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs takes an active part in operations to liberate Kyiv region. The National Guard forces together with the National Police are clearing the cities and liberating settlement after settlement.
"Here you can see the heavy losses inflicted by Russian troops. You see the atrocities, the use of proscribed weapons against civilians, so the National Police is documenting and gathering evidence of these crimes to bring them to justice. One day this time will come," assured Enin.
Law enforcement officers have been recording crimes against humanity and violations of the laws of war. The number of internally displaced persons can now only be estimated. It is known that about 3 million people were evacuated to EU countries - Poland, Hungary, Romania, and other neighboring states.
The National Police, together with the SES, are doing everything in their power to evacuate the population and organize green corridors from dangerous places. But Russian troops are violating the customs of war and attacking State Emergency Service officers in the line of duty, in gross violation of the Geneva Convention, Yenin said.
"We are doing our best to free our people and bring them home," he said.
Another important task of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is to ensure at least the minimum basic needs of Ukrainian citizens who find themselves in a difficult situation, in places without access to food and water.
"The number of victims is in the thousands. This is not only in Irpin, but in Kyiv region in general. Irpin is just a small example of all atrocities," said the First Deputy Minister.
Through the media, Yenin urged Kyiv residents not to rush back home, as it is still dangerous.
"There is no need to rush back home. Unfortunately, Russian troops have left behind a lot of unpleasant surprises. Mines, UXOs, and other dangerous elements. We do not advise our people to return until these are neutralized by SES and National Police. They must do their part of work and only then will the people be able to return to their homes," Yenin added.
As Ukrinform reported, the update by the regional military administrations as of 8.00 on April 1 states that in Kyiv region, the enemy continues to partially withdraw units from the north of the region. Makariv and Irpin are controlled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The infrastructure is destroyed, the territory is mined. There is an operation underway to demine the area.
On February 24, Russian President Putin launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops have been shelling and destroying key infrastructure and residential neighborhoods.
