Over 55,000 people crossed Ukraine's western border on April 5 – border guards
"During the day on April 5, more than 55,000 people and more than 13,000 vehicles crossed Ukraine's western borders with the EU and Moldova. Passenger traffic in the western section of the border remains stable," the statement reads.
More than 32,000 people left Ukraine in the past day. More than 20,000 of them crossed the border through the Ukrainian-Polish section, and others used checkpoints on the border with Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Moldova. There are almost no queues of pedestrians and vehicles in all the above directions.
Some 23,000 people arrived in Ukraine on April 5, and more than 20,000 of them are Ukrainians.
All checkpoints on the western border, except for the Dzvinkove and Kosyno checkpoints, are operating around the clock.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops have been shelling and destroying critical infrastructure and residential areas of Ukrainian cities, towns and villages using artillery, multiple rocket launchers and ballistic missiles.
