NBU transferred almost UAH 14.8B for the needs of Ukrainian army
Ukrinform reports this with reference to the central bank’s press service.
“As of 11 April 2022, the balance on the special fundraising account of the NBU opened to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine reached almost UAH 16 million. An equivalent of more than UAH 14.8 billion has been wired into the special account since it was opened. That includes the equivalent of more than UAH 4.7 billion that has been remitted from abroad in foreign currencies (U.S. dollars, euros, GB pounds, Canadian dollars, Chinese renminbi, Japanese yen, Swiss francs, Polish zlotys, Australian dollars),” the report says.
Funds have been coming in from people and businesses in Ukraine and from all over the international community (including the U.S., the UK, Canada, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Norway, Finland, France, Canada, Australia, the Czech Republic, and many other countries).
As of 11 April 2022, the balance on the special account of the Ministry of Social Policy the NBU opened for humanitarian purposes is over UAH 321 million. About half of the amount donated has come into this account from outside Ukraine in foreign currencies.
“Besides, the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, which is both the recipient and administrator of the funds credited to this account, has already transferred almost UAH 80 million for humanitarian aid to the victims of Russia’s armed aggression,” the report says.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops have been shelling and destroying key infrastructure facilities, conducting massive shelling of residential areas of Ukrainian cities and villages using artillery, multiple rocket launchers and ballistic missiles.
