The relevant statement by the ombudsperson was posted on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
"The city of Izium, Kharkiv region, is on the verge of survival. According to city officials, there are now about 15,000 civilians in Izium. Due to the active hostilities and occupation of the territory, there is no light, no water, no heat, and no communication. Healthcare facilities do not work, there is no medicine. People are starving, because it is currently impossible to deliver food to them, and evacuate them from the city,” Denisova said.
According to her, Izium has become a logistics center for the Russian army: troops are being accumulated there to continue the offensive in Donetsk region.
"I call on the International Committee of the Red Cross to take all possible measures to open a safe humanitarian corridor for the evacuation of civilians from the city of Izium," Denisova said.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops have been shelling and destroying key infrastructure facilities, conducting massive shelling of residential areas of Ukrainian cities and villages using artillery, multiple rocket launchers and ballistic missiles.
