Enemy attacking airfield infrastructure to hinder Ukrainian aviation

“As of 18:00, May 8, the enemy does not stop the offensive in the Eastern Operational Zone in order to establish full control over the territory of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson regions and keep the land corridor between these territories and the occupied Crimea,” the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine posted on Facebook.

The enemy focused its main efforts on the destruction of airfield infrastructure to hinder the activity of Ukrainian aviation, including the Bayraktar UAVs, the aerial support for the units in the area of ​​responsibility of the Joint Forces and the Black Sea Operational Zone. The enemy increased the intensity of the use of operational and tactical aircraft over the waters of the north-western part of the Black Sea, the General Staff noted.

In Slobozhansky direction, the enemy amasses reserves in Belgorod region to conduct military operations near the state border of Ukraine. The deployment of separate units from the 1st Guards Tank Army of the Western Military District was confirmed.

The Russian military did not carry out active offensive operations in Kharkiv direction. The main efforts were focused on preventing the advance of Ukrainian troops. The Russian military strengthened the group by redeploying units from the Western Military District. The shelling of military and civilian infrastructure is ongoing.

In Izium direction, the enemy regrouped its units, replenished its reserves, and conducted air reconnaissance with the use of Orlan-10 UAV in order to clarify the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In Donetsk and Tavriysky directions, the enemy conducts military operations to restrain the units of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.

Over the past day, the enemy intensified hostilities, trying to reach the administrative borders of Luhansk and Donetsk regions. The Russian military regrouped, staffed the units, and enhanced air defense and logistics systems, presumably to intensify hostilities in Sievierodonetsk and Lysychansk districts.

In Lyman direction, some units of the enemy's 90th Guards Tank Division tried to take full control of Oleksandrivka and to gain a foothold on the northern outskirts of Shandryholovo with artillery support. They did not succeed.

In Sievierodonetsk direction, the Russian army is trying to capture the town of Rubizhne, having no success.

In Popasna direction, the enemy tries to take positions in Popasna and take control of a section of Popasna-Bakhmut highway.

The invaders advance towards Novoselivka. They have no success, the fighting continues.

In Kurakhove direction, the aggressor tries to improve the tactical situation towards Novomykhailivka, having no success.

In Mariupol direction, the intensity of hostilities decreased.

In Novopavlivsk and Zaporizhzhia directions, the enemy intensified air reconnaissance in the area of Orikhiv, Huliaypole, Komyshuvakha, and Yasna Poliana.

In the Southern Buh direction, the enemy tries to hold captured positions with forces of up to 15 battalion tactical groups. No active hostilities were conducted. The aggressor fired mortars, artillery and MLRS on the Ukrainian positions.

The occupiers pursue the administrative-police regime in the temporarily occupied territories. An increase in filtration measures taken by the Russian Guard units is observed in the area of settlements Heroyske, Hola Prystan, Kherson.

In Volyn, Polissia, and Siversky directions, the enemy did not take active action.
