In Ukraine, 417 children injured amid Russian aggression

In Ukraine, 226 children were killed and 417 were injured in a full-scale invasion unleashed by the Russian Federation.

That’s according to the Prosecutor General's Office, Ukrinform reports.

"More than 643 children were affected in Ukraine as a result of full-scale armed aggression by the Russian Federation. As of the morning of May 11, 2022, the official number of underage victims has not changed (226). The number of injured has increased to 417," the statement reads.

The prosecutors note that these figures are not final, as work is underway to count the affected children in the zones of active hostilities, in the temporarily occupied and liberated territories.

The largest number of children affected by war was recorded in Donetsk region (139), Kyiv region (116), Kharkiv region (99), Chernihiv region (68), Kherson region (46), Luhansk region (45), Mykolaiv region (44), Zaporizhia region (28), Sumy region (17), Kyiv city (16), and Zhytomyr region (15).

On May 9, a boy, 13, was wounded in a Russian shelling of a household in Lysychansk, Luhansk region.

As a result of daily bombings and shelling by Russian armed forces of Ukrainian cities and villages, 1,657 educational facilities were damaged, of which 139 – completely destroyed.

As Ukrinform reported, on May 10, the Russian military opened fire on a boarding school for children with special needs in the Luhansk region.
