Kharkiv’s Metalist Arena under Russian fire

Multiple casualties were reported in Kharkiv region in the latest series of Russian artillery strikes.

In the city of Kharkiv, Metalist Arena, which was among Ukrainian stadiums hosting UEFA EURO2012, was hit, according to Oleh Syniehubov, chief of the regional military administration, according to Ukrinform.

"In Kharkiv, the Metalist Arena and the infrastructure in the city’s Kyivskyi district were shelled. A fire broke out in a private household in the Kyivskyi district at night as a result of a Russian strike. The emergency response team rescued a man, 52, from under the rubble. He sustained no serious injuries. A woman, 70, was injured in the attack. In total, three people were injured in Kharkiv," the official said.

According to Syniehubov, seven more civilians were injured across Kharkiv region, while two were killed.

A person was killed in Derhachi and another one – in the village of Chornohlazivka, Bohodukhiv district.

In the regional center, Slobidskyi district came under MLRS fire. In the region, the enemy fired on Kharkiv, Chuhuiv, Bohodukhiv, Krasnohrad, and Lozova districts, as well as the Zolochiv community.

"In the region, households, enterprises, and critical infrastructure came under enemy fire. A private enterprise was hit in Derhachi, catching fire. In the village of Slobozhanske, Krasnohrad district, over 20 cars were destroyed by enemy shelling. Forest areas and grass are ablaze in the region due to the strikes,” Syniebubov said.

"Fighting continues on the line of contact in Kharkiv region. In Kharkiv direction, the enemy is focused on defense, conducting remote mining of the area. Attempts to advance toward Dovhenke and Dolyna continue in the Izyum area. Our defenders hold their positions and give the enemy an adequate rebuff. The enemy suffers heavy losses in manpower and equipment,” said the head of the administration.

As reported, 21 territorial communities (out of 56) remain occupied in Kharkiv region, which is 30.1% of the region's area. Active hostilities continue in the Izium and Derhachiv districts.
