Restoring destroyed schools and kindergartens: Tymoshenko meets with UNICEF representatives

The Government of Ukraine is in talks with representatives of private business and non-governmental organizations who may be involved in financing the restoration of the educational infrastructure destroyed or damaged as a result of the Russian invasion.

Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Kyrylo Tymoshenko said this at a meeting with UNICEF representatives on the restoration of educational and children's institutions, Ukrinform reports with reference to the press service of the President’s Office.

Tymoshenko also briefed UNICEF representatives on a plan to rebuild infrastructure in the affected regions of Ukraine.

It is noted that this plan consists of 16 clusters (houses, schools, kindergartens, sports facilities, road infrastructure).

"We need a rapid recovery plan that will help us rebuild homes, kindergartens, and healthcare facilities. This is the infrastructure we want to rebuild now, without delay," said the Deputy Head of the President’s Office.

Tymoshenko informed the Fund's representatives about the number of schools that were completely destroyed or damaged in the shelling, and the projects to rebuild schools that are planned to be implemented with the participation of private investors.

At the same time, he spoke about the President's initiative on the patronage of partner countries to rebuild Ukraine's regions affected by the Russian invasion.

Afshan Khan, UNICEF Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, Special Coordinator for the Refuge and Migrant Response in Europe, said that the organization supports fundraising initiatives for new equipment and teaching materials for Ukrainian schools, as well as training for teachers.

UNICEF representatives noted that new design solutions and inclusiveness requirements should be taken into account while restoring schools and kindergartens.

On February 24, Russian president Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops shell and destroy key infrastructure facilities, massively fire on residential areas of Ukrainian cities, towns, and villages using artillery, MLRS, and ballistic missiles.

More than 1,800 educational institutions in Ukraine have been affected by Russian invasion.
