Invaders intend to use Mariupol residents as human shield
“The occupation authorities plan to build prefabricated apartment buildings using a technology similar to the construction of shopping centers such as Metro. In essence, a temporary metal booth similar to a large cabin.
However, this is not the main point. A few hundred meters from the houses, the occupiers are preparing a line of defense, digging heavy equipment. Such a location makes it impossible to launch artillery strikes on the occupiers' fortifications," Petro Andriushchenko, adviser to Mariupol mayor, posted on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
He noted that information about the start of fortification and construction works between the Azovsky market and a building of the former OBI supermarket came recently from local residents. Later, the occupation authorities began cautious announcements saying it was the construction of "modular houses for homeless Mariupol residents." In fact, it is planned to cynically use people who have lost their homes due to Russian aggression as a human shield.
Mariupol experiences one of the biggest humanitarian catastrophes caused by Russia's aggression. The city was almost completely destroyed by enemy shelling.
Currently, Mariupol has no normal power, water and gas supplies. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, up to 22,000 civilians have died in the city. Today, more than 100,000 people stay in the blocked city. There is a threat of environmental and epidemic disasters.
