Russians start saving high-precision missiles, launching older, more destructive Soviet models
This was stated at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine - Ukrinform by the Air Force spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat.
"Since the enemy avoids flying into the territory controlled by the Armed Forces, they use their aircraft to launch missiles from the Black Sea and from Russia, in particular from the Caspian Sea. These are mainly TU-160 and TU-95 strategic bombers. They used to produce high-tech missiles on our territory, and they are very expensive, costing millions of dollars. Kalibr naval missiles also cost a lot because they (Russians - ed.) didn’t spare their hydrocarbon dollars for missile production. However, there has been a recent trend towards saving such high-precision, more expensive missiles,” Ignat said.
According to the official, Russia began to use less accurate, but no less destructive Soviet-made missiles more often.
"Today, the enemy is increasingly using Soviet types of cruise missiles, such as the X-59 and X-22 air missiles. The latter is one of the most destructive enemy missiles, weighing 900 kilograms. It causes extremely severe damage, but has a significant drawback as it doesn’t always hit the target, and, unfortunately, very often hits civilian infrastructure, inflicting human casualties," added the spokesman.
As reported, at the onset of a full-scale war, 450 Russian planes and 250 helicopters were amassed around Ukraine borders, but for more than two months already, enemy warplanes didn’t fly into the territory controlled by the Armed Forces.
