The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) says that 4,452 civilians have been killed and 5,531 injured in Ukraine since the full-scale Russian invasion started on February 24.

That's according to a civilian casualty update published by OHCHR on June 15, Ukrinform reports.

According to the update, those killed include 1,712 men, 1,144 women, 107 girls, and 106 boys, as well as 67 children and 1,316 adults whose sex is yet unknown.

Those injured include 1,130 men, 785 women, 124 girls, and 163 boys, as well as 172 children and 3,157 adults whose sex is yet unknown.

Most of the civilian casualties recorded were caused by the use of explosive weapons with a wide impact area, including shelling from heavy artillery and multiple launch rocket systems, and missile and air strikes.

OHCHR believes that the actual figures are considerably higher, as the receipt of information from some locations where intense hostilities have been going on has been delayed and many reports are still pending corroboration.

This concerns, for example, Mariupol (Donetsk region), Izium (Kharkiv region), and Popasna (Luhansk region), where there are allegations of numerous civilian casualties.

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched an unprovoked war against Ukraine. The invaders have been shelling and bombing cities, towns and villages in Ukraine, torturing and killing civilians.

The U.S., EU and other countries have imposed sanctions on the aggressor country.
