Group of civilians evacuated from Sviatohirsk Lavra
"With the efforts of the Chief Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, with the participation of the MPs of Ukraine, it was possible to evacuate a group of civilians from the territory of the Sviatohirsk Lavra. This is a family that was hiding in the monastery from constant artillery shelling of the occupiers: father, mother, and three children. The youngest child was born in the territory of the Lavra a few days ago. A couple of elderly people – a man and a woman – also managed to leave," the Chief Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine posted on Telegram.
Now all of them are in the government-controlled territory and receive the necessary medical and psychological assistance.
As noted, Ukraine continues to make efforts to establish a ceasefire and organize a humanitarian corridor to the Sviatohirsk Lavra. Up to 600 civilians, of whom more than 50 are children, including 4 babies, shelter in its territory.
On June 1, the territory of the Sviatohirsk Lavra came under Russian artillery shelling. As a result of the shelling, Archimandrite Halaktion, monk Aristoklii, and nun Varvara were killed. Several priests were seriously injured.
Earlier, the Chief Directorate of Intelligence informed that about 100 monks refused to leave the territory of the Sviatohirsk Lavra in Donetsk region. Some of them are in serious condition due to injuries, age and illness which makes their evacuation impossible.
