Russia frames strikes on Crimea as terrorist attacks to shift narrative away from its crimes – ISW

To weaken the Western countries' support for Ukraine and shift the narrative away from its war crimes, Russia tries to frame strikes on Crimea as acts of terrorism.

“Russian leadership and the Russian nationalist information space have become increasingly invested in framing recent Ukrainian strikes on Russian military assets in Crimea as acts of terrorism in order to shift the information narrative away from Russian violations of international law and calls on the West to designate Russia a state sponsor of terrorism,” reads the report of the US Institute for the Study of War.

As noted, Russian military leadership is likely increasingly losing confidence in the security of Crimea following recent Ukrainian strikes on Russian military objects in Crimea.

After the explosions in Crimea, the occupiers set up a checkpoint before the entrance to the Kerch Bridge and check those leaving the peninsula.
