The Italian Republic will assist Ukraine with post-war reconstruction, namely humanitarian demining operations.

The relevant statement was made by the press service of the Ukrainian Internal Affairs Ministry, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

During a meeting with Ukrainian Internal Affairs Minister Denys Monastyrskyi, Italian Foreign Affairs Minister Luigi Di Maio noted the Italian side would take part in the restoration of Ukrainian territories.

Monastyrskyi and Di Maio are co-chairing the Ukrainian-Italian Council on Economic, Industrial and Financial Cooperation. Italy’s aid package will include EUR 2 million for humanitarian demining operations within the liberated areas of Ukraine.

According to Monastyrskyi, the Italian Republic is one of Ukraine’s key trade and economic partners in Europe, as well as a good friend. Monastyrskyi thanked Di Maio for his personal stance regarding Ukraine.

Some equipment required for demining operations can be handed over to Ukrainian rescuers in the near future, Di Maio noted.

The parties also discussed accelerating the ratification of the Ukrainian-Italian Police Cooperation Intergovernmental Agreement, which was signed in June 2021.
