Russian troops shell Kharkiv center: at least five killed, seven wounded
Oleh Syniehubov, the head of the Regional Military Administration, broke the news of the shelling on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
"As a result of the shelling of the central part of Kharkiv, at least four people died and four more were injured. The information is being verified," Syniehubov wrote initially.
In his previous post, the official also informed the public of the latest destruction caused by Russian strikes, urging local residents to remain in shelters.
Mayor Ihor Terekhov says at least eight hits were reported outside residential buildings and recreation areas across the city.
"So far we are aware of the fire that set out in one of the favorite recreation spots for Kharkiv residents," the mayor said.
In an update, Mayor Terekhov said the death toll had risen to five, while the number of injured -- to seven.
