Pentagon provides additional defense aid package to Ukraine
This was stated by the spokeswoman for the U.S. Defense Department, Sabrina Singh, during a briefing at the Pentagon on Friday, Ukrinform's own correspondent reports.
The new package includes additional munitions for HIMARS systems, 500 high-precision 155 mm projectiles, 2,000 projectiles with remote mining systems, more than 1,300 anti-armor systems, 125 HMMWV-type armored personnel carriers, small arms, and more than 2.75 million rounds of ammunition for it, as well as satellite communication equipment.
The Pentagon official noted that the current support is allocated within a presidential drawdown, aimed at covering Ukraine’s critical needs in the sphere of security and defense.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, on Thursday the U.S. administration initiated a Plan to Counter Illicit Diversion of Certain Advanced Conventional Weapons in Eastern Europe. It aims to ensure that weapons sent to Ukraine do not end up in the hands of the Russian side or other extremist groups.
