Kyiv region may remain without electricity for two weeks – governor

Oleksiy Kuleba, the head of the Kyiv regional military administration, has said he does not rule out that the Kyiv region may be completely left without electricity if Russia continues attacking critical infrastructure.

He said this in an interview with the news site hromadske.ua, Ukrinform reports.

He suggested that there could be a total power outage in the region "if missile attacks on our energy infrastructure continue, and we will not be able to preserve it thanks to air defenses."

Evaluating the most optimistic and the worst-case scenario regarding the blackout, Kuleba said it depends on the extent of damage caused by Russian shelling.

According to him, if this is damage that can be restored in two weeks, then this will indicate that "we need to hold out for two weeks."

"If there is another damage, the repair process may take more time or, vice versa, less time. Unfortunately, we have an enemy that it is difficult to predict the conditions of strikes. That is, there is a real threat that we may be left without electricity for up to two weeks. And we are already preparing for this," Kuleba said.
