Lubinets meets with new ICRC president, notes importance of visit to Olenivka
Lubinets said this in a post on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
"Today I met with the new president of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mirjana Spoljaric Egger. We discussed the issue of access to Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilian hostages. In particular, I emphasized the importance of a visit to the scene of the tragedy in Olenivka, where more than 50 defenders of Ukraine were killed," he said.
Lubinets suggested that ICRC representatives take part in meetings with the families of prisoners of war, which are often held by the Ombudsman's Office.
Lubinets said he had been officially informed that new visits to prisoners of war by representatives of the ICRC, which have been taking place in recent weeks, bring long-awaited news for their families.
Lubinets expressed hope that the new ICRC head would do everything possible so that the International Committee of the Red Cross starts acting more effectively in accordance with its mandate.
On July 29, at the former penal colony No. 210 in Olenivka, in the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region, a powerful explosion obliterated a barrack where Ukrainian prisoners of war were transferred to ahead of the incident. According to the Russian side, nearly 50 Ukrainian defenders were killed and more than 70 others were seriously injured.
