Former political prisoner Hennadiy Afanasyev killed on front line

Hennadiy Afanasyev, activist of civil resistance to the Russian occupation of Crimea and former political prisoner, was killed on the Russia-Ukraine front line.
"Former political prisoner Hennadiy Afanasyev was killed on the front line defending his country. Eternal glory to the Hero!" film director, former Kremlin prisoner Oleg Sentsov, who is now defending Ukraine on the front, posted on Facebook.
Afanasyev was one of the defendants in the case of the so-called "Sentsov group terrorists". He had been arrested before the FSB officers took Oleg Sentsov and Oleksandr Kolchenko into custody. Afanasyev was detained in Simferopol on May 9, 2014. On July 31, 2015, speaking in the court during the trial of Oleg Sentsov and Oleksandr Kolchenko as a witness for the prosecution, Afanasyev retracted his previous testimony, saying they were obtained by torture.
