Ukraine calls for Special Tribunal for Russian political, military leadership
The relevant statement was made by Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Smyrnov during the round table meeting ‘The Black Book of Russian War Crimes: Facts of Genocide’, held as part of the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
According to Smyrnov, the Special International Tribunal will make it possible to put on trial the Russian political and military leadership by preparing appropriate indictments and arrest warrants for the Russian senior officials and other members of Russia’s Security Council, i.e. those who gave and continue giving criminal orders to wage an aggressive war against Ukraine.
In order to protect civilians and global security standards, Smyrnov urged the partner countries to establish the special international tribunal to investigate Russia’s crime of aggression against Ukraine.
“It is a separate international judicial body that must judge the Russian political and military leadership for committing the crime of aggression against Ukraine,” Smyrnov stressed.
According to Smyrnov, Russia has repeatedly proven to be an aggressor state. In particular, there is photo and video evidence of tortures used against civilians and Russian attacks on critical infrastructure and cities. Neither international conventions nor the customs of war matter to the aggressor, Smyrnov added.
