Enemy continues assault on Bakhmut – General Staff

The Ukrainian Air Force has launched 16 strikes on the positions of Russian forces during the current day. In some areas of the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, enemy troops are trying to create conditions for the transition to an offensive.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said this in an operational update as of 18:00 on Wednesday, March 1, Ukrinform reports.

"During the current day, the Air Force of the Defense Forces launched 16 strikes on the occupiers’ personnel and military equipment clusters. Also, our defenders shot down an enemy unmanned aerial vehicle of the Orlan-10 type," the report says.

Units of the Ukrainian rocket forces and artillery, on their part, struck one enemy personnel cluster, two ammunition depots and two electronic warfare systems.

"In the past 24 hours, the Air Force of the Defense Forces launched 11 strikes on enemy personnel clusters, while the rocket forces and artillery hit 9 clusters of enemy personnel, weapons and military equipment, as well as two positions of their anti-aircraft missile systems, an electronic warfare station and an ammunition depot,” the report says.

According to the General Staff, the Russian army is focusing their main efforts on conducting offensive operations in the Kupiansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Shakhtarsk directions.

According to the General Staff, the enemy continues to violate the norms of international humanitarian law, carrying out artillery attacks on civilian objects and houses, attempts to destroy critical infrastructure of Ukraine.

Throughout the day, Russian troops launched three missile attacks on civilian objects in Kharkiv region, injuring civilians. In addition, the enemy launched more than 20 MLRS attacks and 16 air strikes, in particular, using two Shahed-136 drones, which were eventually shot down by Ukrainian defenders.

The General Staff also warns that the threat of Russian missile strikes across Ukraine remains high.

As Ukrinform reported, from February 24, 2022 to March 1, 2023, the Defense Forces of Ukraine eliminated nearly 149,890 Russian troops.
