Kostin, Metsola discuss prosecution of war criminals
The meeting took place within the framework of the United for Justice conference, the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office posted on Telegram.
"We discussed the mechanisms to bring those guilty of war crimes to justice and the support that Ukraine receives from the European community. The Prosecutor General thanked the EU for the practical assistance for the Prosecutor General's Office in ensuring the investigation into war crimes that are increasing every day," the statement reads.
Metsola noted that peace requires accountability and freedom. She reaffirmed the EU's commitment to ensure that perpetrators of Russian war crimes be held to account. According to her, an important step will be the creation of the International Center for the Prosecution of Crimes of Aggression.
Kostin noted that Ukraine is grateful to European partners for the steps they are taking to establish a special tribunal for the crime of aggression as soon as possible. "We stand together on the same path– the path of restoring justice," he added.
On March 4, during a meeting with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed gratitude for her leadership in supporting Ukraine since the first days of the war unleashed by Russia and for the important decisions adopted by the European Parliament.
