Holding defense in Bakhmut is military necessity – Ground Forces Commander Syrskyi
The relevant statement was made by Military Media Center, citing Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi, who had paid another visit to the hottest spots in the Bakhmut direction, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“The most intense phase of the battles for Bakhmut continues. The situation is consistently challenging. The enemy suffers significant losses in terms of personnel, weapons and military equipment, but continues to conduct offensive actions. Our defenders, in extremely difficult conditions, heroically hold back the enemy’s onslaught and leave no chance for the enemy to execute their plans,” Syrskyi noted.
In his words, holding defense in Bakhmut is a military necessity and is based on the competent use of the defensive capabilities of the city, set up fortifications and equipped firing shelters.
“The courage and heroism of our soldiers, combined with the skillful use of weapons, the use of maneuvering forces and means, allowed us to hold the defense of the city beyond all deadlines and forecasts,” Syrskyi stressed.
According to Syrskyi, the Ukrainian side is looking at all potential scenarios and will act adequately in accordance with the current situation.
A reminder that, on March 26, 2023, Ukraine’s Defense Forces repelled over 60 enemy attacks in the Kupiansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Marinka directions.
