Ukraine’s mine-contaminated area is 4.5 times larger than Switzerland - Maasikas
This is stated in a video message by the Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Matti Maasikas, Ukrinform reports.
“We will continue helping with surveying, clearance and mine risk education. We will provide equipment together with our member states. But as in all matters of recovery Ukraine's leadership is key,“ Maasikas said.
As reported, since the beginning of the Russian large-scale invasion of Ukraine, 340,11 explosive devices and 2,891 kg of explosives, including 2,200 aircraft bombs, have been defused.
An area of about 81,601 hectares was surveyed.
Ukraine, together with international partners, prepares a pilot project to test the latest technologies in real-world conditions to survey areas that may be contaminated by explosive ordnance.
