In the battle for Bakhmut, Donetsk region, Russian invaders switched to the "Syrian" scorched earth tactics, with Ukrainian defenders continuing to hold the city.

That's according to Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, Ukrinform reports, citing the Telegram channel of the Military Media Center.

On Sunday, April 9, Syrskyi visited the hottest spots of the front in the Bakhmut sector, where he heard reports by the commanders of military units and gropings about the progress of the defense and problems that need to be resolved immediately.

The commander made operational decisions and set the tasks. He also met with the personnel of the brigades of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, Air Assault Forces and Territorial Defense Forces, who are heroically resisting the enemy's offensive in the Bakhmut area.

Syrskyi presented the best fighters with awards, valuable gifts and cash bonuses.

"Our courageous soldiers exhausted Wagner mercenaries, so the enemy is now forced to involve special forces and air assault units in the battles for Bakhmut. The fighting is fierce on both sides," the commander said.

According to Syrskyi, having switched to the so-called "Syrian" scorched earth tactics, the enemy destroys buildings and positions with airstrikes and artillery fire.

"The defense of Bakhmut is ongoing. The situation is difficult, but remains under control," he added.
