Kazakhstan opens 10 criminal cases over citizens' participation in Russian war

The National Security Committee of Kazakhstan is investigating 10 criminal cases related to the participation of Kazakh citizens in Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine.

This was reported by the Kazakh Telegraphic Agency, Ukrinform saw.   

No personal information on defendants and their actions has been disclosed so far due to investigation secrecy restrictions.

Article 172 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan lays down criminal liability for participation in foreign armed conflicts. If found guilty, suspects may face five to nine years in prison

Earlier, Kazakhstan refused to host the Zhara Music Festival with the participation of Russian artists who support the war against Ukraine.
