Demining efforts in Ukraine likely to take at least decade – UK intel
The relevant statement was made by the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom on Twitter, referring to the latest Defence Intelligence update, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
Mine-related civilian casualties continue to be reported daily in Ukraine, the UK intelligence noted. The most affected areas are the Kherson and Kharkiv regions, which used to be occupied by Russia.
The UK intelligence emphasized that, with the arrival of spring, and more people involved in agricultural activities, the risk of civilian mine incidents would increase.
“Over 750 mine related casualties among civilians have been reported since the start of the invasion – one in eight has involved a child. It will likely take at least a decade to clear Ukraine of mines,” the UK intelligence concluded.
A reminder that President of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen stated earlier that the Austrian government is currently working on the issue of providing assistance to Ukraine in demining the territories, and he will personally ensure that this issue is “not forgotten”.
