The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine has established evidence pointing to the direct involvement of Russian special services in the creation of torture chambers on Ukrainian territory by the occupation forces and the commission of mass torture.

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin said this during a hearing in the U.S. Congress on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"In the course of the investigation, we found evidence of financial transactions that indicate a direct link between torture chambers and Russian special services. This is a clear sign that the policy of torture is part of Moscow's criminal plan to subjugate Ukrainians," he said.

He informed the congressmen that Ukrainian investigators have discovered about 20 such torture chambers in Kherson and the region alone, and more than a thousand people who went through it have testified about what the Russians did there.

"The survivors say that the Russian military subjected them to various forms of ill-treatment, including beatings with sticks and rubber truncheons, the use of stun guns, simulated drowning, stripping naked, threats to kill or maim, etc.," Kostin said.

He continued that, according to witnesses, they were forced to shout pro-Russian slogans and listen to the Russian anthem. At night, they heard the screams of others being abused by the Russians.

In addition, enforced disappearances have become a systemic and widespread crime in all the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

As reported by Ukrinform, according to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, as of today, about 80,000 war crimes committed by Russians in Ukraine have been officially registered.
