Response to ‘Wagnerites’ must be global - Ukraine’s prosecutor general
He said this in an interview with the American TV channel MSNBC, Ukrinform reports.
According to Kostin, this issue is one of the most important during his visit to the United States.
"There is a resolution that proposes to call the Wagner PMC an international terrorist organization because it is working, it is active in different countries - in African countries, even in the Caribbean - earning money illegally that it uses to fight against Ukraine," Kostin said.
He added that Wagner mercenaries had committed many war crimes against Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilians in the temporarily occupied territories.
The Prosecutor General emphasized that the response to the actions of the Wagner Group forces should be global.
"I believe that the United States will be standing with us to put an end to this international terrorist organization," he said.
According to Kostin, the Ukrainian side is also working with partners to establish all war crimes committed by Russia on the territory of Ukraine, including cases of sexual violence and rape.
“We are currently investigating more than 170 issues, the incidence of sexual violence where the victims and survivors are not only women but men not only girls but also boys,” Kostin said.
According to him, some cases have already been brought to court, and one person has been convicted of sexual crimes.
As reported earlier, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin is on a working visit to the United States.
