Early warning system to significantly help protect Ukraine’s sky – Air Force spox
That’s according to Yuriy Ihnat, the spokesman for the Air Force Command, who spoke on the air of the national telethon, Ukrinform reports.
"An early warning system is currently necessary. It is critical to know when a launch has occurred in order to quickly respond and deploy air defense systems. If there is any threat, early detection systems can quickly provide such data," Ihnat said.
He noted that such a system could significantly help Ukraine in various operational areas.
"You saw what happened in Zaporizhia, where an anti-aircraft missile hit an apartment building. The projectile’s approach time is just a few minutes. When there is no timely report about such a launch, there’s no time to shelter," Ihnat stressed.
The spokesman noted that this also applies to S-300 and S-400 anti-aircraft missiles. In addition, he emphasized that human lives depend on the promptness of warning about the threat.
As Ukrinform reported, Israel is working on a pilot project of an early system to warn Kyiv residents of any incoming missiles and drones. The project may later be expanded to warn other regions in Ukraine.
In Israel, powerful radars calculate exactly where a missile is expected to hit, and the air raid siren goes off in specific locations. In addition, the siren gives a special signal telling the population how many minutes people have to find shelter.
