Czech president visits dormitory for IDPs in Dnipro

As part of his visit to Dnipro, President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel visited a dormitory for internally displaced persons (IDPs), which has been operating since 2014.

Serhiy Lysak, the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, wrote this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

"Since the full-scale invasion, the region has welcomed almost 400,000 displaced people. They usually rent housing on their own. Some were sheltered by the region’s residents for free. The local government also offers accommodation options. In total, more than 8,000 places have been prepared. Today, Czech President Petr Pavel visited one of them,” Lysak wrote.

According to the regional governor, the Czech president visited a vocational school dormitory, which has been welcoming IDPs since 2014. As the regional governor noted, up to 500 IDPs were once accommodated here at the same time. Today, a little more than 70 IDPs are remaining here. They are from Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Luhansk regions.

The Czech president also visited the site of Russia’s missile attack – near a multi-story apartment block destroyed by a Russian missile on January 14. Flowers were laid here in memory of those killed.

In addition, Pavel laid flowers on the Alley of Memory of Heroes, dedicated to the fallen defenders of Ukraine.

As reported, President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel and his Slovak counterpart Zuzana Caputova arrived in Ukraine on April 28. They visited Bucha and Borodianka in Kyiv region, met with President Volodymyr Zelensky, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, and Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. Today, April 29, the leader of the Czech Republic is visiting Dnipropetrovsk region to discuss with the local authorities the reconstruction of the region.
