Reznikov about ‘ammo shortage’: Reserve prepared for counteroffensive
In turn, Ukraine solves the problem of ammunition shortage not with qualitative indicators, not quantitative ones: Western precision weapons allow to compensate for shortage of shells. In addition, a reserve has been prepared for a counteroffensive, Defense Minister of Ukraine Oleksii Reznikov said during the national news telethon, Ukrinform reports.
"This is a war of resources. The Russians have very huge resources, they have been accumulated since the time of the Soviet Union... And I want to say that in the first months, the first six months of this part of the open war, they used up to 60,000 shells of different types, different caliber," Reznikov said.
At the same time, according to him, the enemy's resources are not infinite, so the Russians are now actively looking for weapons and equipment in the international market.
Reznikov noted that the Western partners also have limited ability to manufacture projectiles, therefore, during negotiations with them, Ukraine emphasizes the need to receive not just any artillery and any projectiles, but high-quality weapons. More precision weapons make it possible to compensate for shell shortage, Reznikov believes.
"The Russians continue to shoot in multiple launches, our troops have the ability to use two shots, even for counter-battery combat. Therefore, the task here is not even so much in quantity, but in the quality of artillery and, accordingly, shots," the minister explained.
Asked about the provision of Ukrainian defenders with rounds for a counteroffensive, Reznikov said: "Of course, counteroffensive has been discussed with our partners. And we provide the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including, with ammunition both for protection now on the front line, and reserves are being accumulated for the counteroffensive," the minister said.
