United States, Australia preparing joint military aid package to Ukraine – media
According to AAP, information about a joint military package comes ahead of President Joe Biden visiting Australia.
"We are a big supporter of the Ukrainian efforts to repel the Russian invaders and that will be represented in the budget," Australia's Treasurer Jim Chalmers told reporters in Canberra on Friday.
Ukraine's Ambassador to Australia Vasyl Myroshnychenko said he wouldn't speculate on any upcoming package but welcomed any assistance.
"It's too early to talk about it but it would be good if something like that came because that would help Ukraine a lot," he told AAP.
It is noted that Kyiv on Tuesday submitted a wish list of aid, which includes Hawkei armoured vehicles, artillery and ammunition.
As reported by Ukrinform, the United States is allocating a new tranche of security and defense assistance to Ukraine, which will mainly include ammunition and other weapons required by the Armed Forces.
The new package includes more ammunition for U.S.-provided HIMARS, more rounds for howitzers, artillery, and mortars, as well as anti-tank weapons.
This is the 37th package of security assistance for Ukraine using presidential drawdown authorities, which provides for the immediate supply of arms directly from the available funds of the U.S. Department of Defense.
