Downed Bayraktar TB2 was only drone in Kyiv airspace - Ignat
Yuriy Ihnat, a spokesman for the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said this on the air of the nationwide telethon "United News" when asked if it was the only drone over Kyiv, Ukrinform reports.
"Of course. When the target falls, it flies a few more kilometers at least and then crashes. Fortunately, no people were hurt," Ihnat said.
He added that the reasons for the loss of control of the Bayraktar drone are currently being investigated by experts.
"Yes, it was a drone, unfortunately, our Bayraktar. We feel sorry for the bird, of course. After all, we have been losing them at the front... But you know, to make a news story out of it... Well, it happens, it's just equipment. We just had to neutralize it, there were no other options," he explained, adding that they would now find out why it happened.
Ihnat also noted that the excitement among citizens was caused by a video posted online that gives a misleading impression of the drone's location.
"Visually, it looks like it's flying over your house, but in reality, it's about 5 kilometers away, maybe more. The sky is deceptive... Even when we shot down a Shahed, it seemed like it was flying nearby, they were shooting at it, and no one could hit it. From the very first days, there was no understanding of how far or close it was, so it was really a visual effect," Ihnat explained.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that on the evening of May 4, a Bayraktar TB2 drone was shot down over the capital after it lost control. The uncontrolled presence of drones in the sky of the capital could have led to undesirable consequences. Therefore, it was decided to use the calculations of mobile fire groups. There were no casualties or injuries as a result of the combat operations and the fall of the UAV wreckage.
