Drones making “revolution” on battlefield – Ukraine’s Air Force spokesman
That’s according to Yuriy Ihnat, the spokesman for Ukraine’s Air Force Command, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"You see what’s happening in Crimea... Let's just talk drones... You can see how UAVs today reach a significantly new level, really making a revolution at the front. This applies to UAVs of quadcopter types and different levels – tactical, strategic, and so on. This is what needs to be developed in Ukraine today, this is what will be prioritized in the future," Ihnat said, responding to a journalist's request to comment on multiple reports of a "tense night in Crimea," implying drone strikes.
According to Ihnat, "it's good that our UAV industry is also developing, it's good that the drones we have today are actively used at the front and producing results."
"But at the same time, it is necessary to develop anti-drone systems because the enemy doesn’t sleep. You see, now they have their own production of UAVs of various types, Lancets have been used a lot recently, Iranian Shahed drones are employed… But the enemy will definitely make attempts to set up an extensive production of UAVs, especially attack drones. That’s because, unfortunately, they are effective. But we use them, too here in Ukraine. That's why we have to work in both directions," Ihnat said.
As reported earlier, the Air Force on Saturday, May 6, downed four Russian operational and tactical-level UAVs and a Lancet-type one-way attack drone.
