Ukroboronprom, Rheinmetall announce creation of joint venture

"Ukroboronprom State Concern and one of the global defense industry leaders – German company Rheinmetall – concluded a strategic partnership agreement. The goal is to strengthen the defense industry of Ukraine and its national security through the creation of a joint venture," the press service of Ukroboronprom posted on Facebook.

According to the agreement, the basis and first step for cooperation is the maintenance and repair of armored vehicles transferred to Ukraine. In the future, the partners intend to jointly produce Rheinmetall products in Ukraine, as well as jointly develop promising units of weapons and military equipment on the basis of a newly created joint venture with the participation of Ukrainian and German specialists.

It is emphasized that the start of the joint venture is planned for mid-July 2023.

As reported, Rheinmetall plans to be able to produce tanks, anti-aircraft systems and ammunition in Ukraine in the future. As a specific example, the company cites the plan for the production of Panther-type main battle tanks in Ukraine announced several months ago.

In early April, it became known that Rheinmetall is building a service center for Western military equipment used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Romania.
