U.S. Department of State declares providing F-16s to Ukraine as priority
The relevant statement was made by Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State Matthew Miller during a press briefing in Washington on Monday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“So, with respect to the calculus of providing F-16 to Ukraine, the President [Joe Biden – Ed.] has made very clear that we will begin training the Ukrainian military to pilot F-16. And we will work with our allies and partners on the provision of F-16s to Ukraine,” Miller noted.
In his words, there are no announcements about when or how that will happen, or what countries the fighter jets will come from.
“But, it is a priority for us, and we will begin to implement that in the coming months,” Miller stressed.
A reminder that last week Spokesperson for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yurii Ihnat mentioned that Ukraine could receive several dozens of the F-16 fighter jets from international partners at the initial stage.
