Ukraine returns from captivity 106 defenders – warriors from Bakhmut direction
Andriy Yermak, the head of the Ukrainian President's Office, announced this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
"We are returning home 106 of our people. These are soldiers from the Bakhmut direction - 8 officers and 98 soldiers and sergeants," he said.
According to the head of the President’s Office, among those freed from Russian captivity, many had been considered missing.
"They fought for Bakhmut and performed the feat that prevented the enemy from advancing further into our East. Each of them is a hero of our state," Yermak emphasized.
The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War said in a Telegram post that eight officers and 98 soldiers and sergeants, are returning home. Three bodies were repatriated: two foreigners and a Ukrainian woman.
All those freed from captivity were defending Ukraine in the Bakhmut sector, 68 of the freed soldiers had been considered missing.
Among the freed defenders, 98 are members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including 21 representatives of the territorial defense. Also, seven border guards and one serviceperson of the State Special Transport Service have returned home, according to the report.
Overall, 2,430 people have already returned home as a result of prisoner swap. Among them - 139 civilians, the headquarters noted.
As reported by Ukrinform, earlier the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War stated that there was no queue for the exchange of prisoners of war.
