The situation in the Northern operational zone is fully controlled by the units of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, State Border Guard Service, other military formations, and law enforcement agencies.

That’s according to the Commander of the Joint Forces, Lieutenant General Serhiy Naiev, Ukrinfrom reports.

Naiev noted that he made working trip to the Northern operational zone where he met with fighters who recently returned from eastern Ukraine’s combat missions on rotation.

The lieutenant general visited the positions to see their condition, assessed the level of defenses, and discussed with the soldiers on the ground their urgent problematic issues, praising defenders for their courage and selflessness in combat. He also awarded some of the servicemen for their “service and valor."

In Naiev's words, "our defenders are undertaking a set of measures to improve the engineering equipment of defensive positions."

According to the commander, measures are being taken to demining unsecured areas, setting up fortifications and engineering barriers. Meanwhile, border guards are working to strengthen the state border in all high-risk sectors.

Over the last week alone, about 20 anti-tank minefields have been set up, as well as over 15 batches of anti-tank mines, almost 150 anti-personnel explosive devices, more than 100 mine barriers, 25 forest minefields, nearly 130 non-explosive barriers, as well as more than 6 kilometers of inconspicuous obstacles," the commander concluded.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, Naiev says Ukrainian defense forces take two weeks to two months to master the new models of Western weapons that are coming in from partners.
