Kyiv police praise two officers for removing UXO from burning building amid drone attack
That’s according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ukrinform reports.
"Police bomb squad officers, Taras Dmytruk and Roman Khomenko, performed a heroic feat by removing unexploded ordnance from a burning building in Kyiv. They prevented a large-scale explosion," the statement reads.
It is noted that the incident took place in the Holosiivsky where the debris from a downed drone fell onto a factory, setting one of the buildings on the site ablaze. The drone’s payload that did not set off remained in the fire. Amid high temperatures, it could detonate at any moment and lead to a powerful explosion leading to serious consequences.
All emergency services, including police and a bomb squad, immediately scrambled to the scene.
"They risked their lives to avoid a large-scale explosion and save many lives. We thank them for their important service and courage," Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasized.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, the Air Defense Forces destroyed all 15 incoming cruise missiles and 21 one-way attack drones Russia launched on the night of June 2.
