Ukraine expects to involve UNDP in demining
This was discussed during a meeting between First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yuliia Svyrydenko and UNDP Mine Action Coordinator in Ukraine Paul Heslop, the press service of the Ministry of Economy reports, according to Ukrinform.
"We are working on creating a demining sector, attracting more non-governmental operators, and strengthening the capacity of government institutions. One of the key issues that will allow us to accelerate the process is the organisation of clear coordination of work and the rational use of available resources. UNDP has extensive experience in organising demining processes in different countries. And we look forward to UNDP's assistance and support in this matter," Svyrydenko said.
It is noted that during the meeting, the parties discussed ways to optimise the work of non-governmental operators, solve current problems, and develop solutions that will allow more efficient use of the potential of pyrotechnic units. The parties also discussed the planning of survey, demining or clearance activities, area zoning and demining priorities.
As reported, a project is currently being implemented in Ukraine at the initiative of the UNDP to engage global companies with advanced mine action technologies in demining our country's territory. Companies that have modern remote sensing technologies can test their equipment in conditions close to real life.
Based on the test results, equipment and technologies that prove their effectiveness will be involved in humanitarian demining in Ukraine.
