Water level rises in Mykolaiv region, 3,000 ha of forests flooded
"Flooding has reached several more forest areas in Mykolaiv region. As of 08:30 on June 8, the first two streets were flooded in Vasylivka village of Ochakiv community on Kinburn. Local residents report that there is up to 20 cm of water in houses. The lakes around the villages are filling up. The water level rises rapidly," the Southern Forestry Office posted on Facebook.
It is noted that 30% and 14% of forest plantations of Kinburn and Vasylivka forests are flooded, respectively. The total area of flooded forests in Mykolaiv region is about 3,000 ha, most of which are occupied.
Flooding was recorded in the Andriyivka forestry of the Mykolaiv branch (0.5 ha) and the Snihurivka forestry of the Bashtanka branch (654 ha). More than 2,000 ha have been flooded on the Kinburn Spit.
Flooding of the de-occupied Snihurivka forestry poses a particular danger. As the territory is mined, landmines and explosive objects may be carried away by water flow.
As reported, the Russian army blew up the Kakhovka HPP dam on the night of June 6. In Kherson region, the evacuation of the population from dangerous places, which are at risk of flooding due to the explosion, has begun. Law enforcement officers have initiated an investigation under the article "ecocide". Ukrhydroenergo hydro power generating company stated that the Kakhovka HPP is completely destroyed and cannot be restored.
