Maasikas reacts to Russian missile attack on Kyiv during African leaders' visit
Matti Maasikas, the head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, said this on Twitter, Ukrinform reports.
“Missile attack on Kyiv when 6 African leaders are here, as if a signal from the aggressor state. Some similarities to the attack on Kyiv in April 2022 when Secretary General Guterres was in town. In any case, the leaders are feeling some realities of Russia’s war of aggression,” said Maasikas.
As reported, the Air Force of Ukraine warned about the launches of Kalibr cruise missiles from the Black Sea on June 16. Air defense is currently operating in Kyiv. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko also reported an explosion in the Podil district of the capital.
President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in Ukraine on Friday for a visit. Earlier, he announced a peace initiative to end Russia's war against Ukraine, which was to be proposed by African countries.
In April 2022, UN Secretary-General Guterres arrived in Kyiv for a visit. At that time, Russian troops shelled the capital while the Ukrainian leadership was discussing ways to end the war with the UN Secretary-General. The shelling partially destroyed a 25-story residential building.
