At the current stage, the USA does not consider the threat of Russian troops’ blowing up the Zaporizhzhia NPP to be "imminent" despite the information about the placement of explosives in the plant’s territory.

“I am not going to get into specific intelligence.  I would tell you that we’re watching this very closely,” NSC Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby told a briefing on Monday when asked to comment on Ukraine’s statements about the activity of Russian troops in mining the Zaporizhzhia NPP, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

He noted that the US has the ability to monitor radio activity near the plant.

“We just haven’t seen any indication that that threat is imminent, but we’re watching it very, very closely,” Kirby added.

As reported, Ukraine’s military intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov said that Russian troops placed equipment with explosives near four out of six power units of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. He also noted that the plan for a terrorist attack at the ZNPP was fully developed and approved by the Russian leadership.
