Zelensky appoints new commander of Ukraine's National Guard

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed combat officer Oleksandr Pivnenko as the commander of Ukraine's National Guard.

The head of state said this in Lviv on Saturday, July 8, upon return from Turkey together with Azov battalion commanders, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"Among us now is Hero of Ukraine Oleksandr Pivnenko, a powerful soldier of the National Guard, a combat officer, who distinguished himself in the battles against the Russian occupiers, particularly in the battles for Bakhmut. I appointed Hero of Ukraine Oleksandr Pivnenko as the Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine," Zelensky said.

The head of state wished the new National Guard commander the liberation of all Ukrainian land, the return of all Ukrainians, as well as the desired victory.

In addition, the head of state presented state awards to the Ukrainian military.
