France to hand over long-range SCALP missiles to Ukraine
That's according to BFM TV, Ukrinform reports.
"We decided to provide Ukraine with new missiles capable of striking deep into the rear," Macron said.
He also added that it is important to send a message of support for Ukraine and NATO unity.
The SCALP missile is a French version of the British Storm Shadow, which London has already delivered to Kyiv.
This long-range weapon can hit targets up to 500 kilometers away. The missiles travel at a speed of over 1000 km/h at an altitude of 30 kilometers.
GPS controls their flight path.
This missile was developed in the 90s by Matra and British Aerospace and then manufactured by MBDA in two versions: SCALP for France and Storm Shadow for the British.
Other versions were developed for export with a limited range of 250 kilometers and under different names.
In the United Arab Emirates, this weapon is called the Black Shaheen and was installed on the Mirage in the 2000s.
As reported, today, July 11, the NATO Summit began in Vilnius, during which the allies will make important decisions to strengthen the Alliance's deterrence and defense system, as well as reaffirm their support for Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression and on the path to Ukraine's membership in NATO.
