Pentagon says Ukraine’s counteroffensive ‘pretty remarkable’

The current pace of the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is explained by the fact that the advance is taking place in tough terrain. At the same time, the achievements of the Ukrainian military are pretty remarkable.

“They [Armed Forces of Ukraine]’re using new equipment and they're doing that all while being shot at and bombed, not to mention the … extensive mining that the Russians have put in place.  And so where they are gaining hundreds of meters a day, maybe a kilometer a day in some places, they're doing that at great cost in terms of effort,” Lieutenant General Douglas Sims, Director for Operations of the U.S. Joint Staff told a briefing.

The Lieutenant General emphasized that the counteroffensive is taking place "in great order across on the battlefield," although may not be at the speed that the United States would prefer.

“This is hard warfare, it's in really tough terrain, it's under fire, and really, when you consider all of that, it's pretty remarkable,” Sims added.

As reported, the Ukrainian soldiers eliminated 550 Russian occupiers, destroyed five tanks, nine armored combat vehicles, 24 artillery systems, two MLRS, 2 air defense systems, 31 operational-tactical UAVs, two cruise missiles, 24 vehicles, and 10 special equipment units over the past day.
