Russian nukes in Belarus no fundamental change for Ukraine - GUR

The fact that Russia deployed a number of nuclear warheads in the territory of Belarus does not fundamentally change anything for Ukraine.

That’s according to Andriy Yusov, a spokesman for the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry, who spoke at the national telethon, commenting on whether earlier reports of such deployment are true, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Everyone, in principle, has already said that this is a reality. Why should we deny it? But the main thing is that what does this fundamentally change for Ukraine? The answer is simple: nothing," he said.

Answering the question of why this was done and for whom it was intended, Yusov expressed his opinion regarding the repetition of, in particular, the Caribbean crisis, only closer and smaller in scale.

"Russian nuclear weapons might remain on the territory of Belarus. But globally, in terms of security, it does not change anything for either Europe or Ukraine," said the GUR spokesman.

As reported earlier, Ukraine’s defense intelligence warned that the Russians would continue to employ nuclear blackmail as one of the elements of pressure on Ukraine.
